A former Roosters great has praised the appointment of Brendan McCartney as coach of North Ballarat in the BFNL.
McCartney was this week announced as the new head coach of the Roosters for a 3 year term after losing his job with the Geelong Falcons in the NAB League under 18 competition.
Gerard FitzGerald, a 3 time VFL Premiership winning coach with North Ballarat, says recent job losses in the AFL will benefit local footy.
"It's a fantastic get by the North Ballarat footy club, they would be delighted as he's a quality person," Mr FitzGerald said.
"The interesting this was that he's an example now of people who have lost their positions or lost access to positions in the AFL who will now be looking for positions at a lower level."
McCartney does have links with Ballarat with his father attending St Patrick's College back in the 1940's.
