Vigil for Samantha Murphy to be held, as local community mourns

A vigil to remember Samantha Murphy is set to be held in Ballarat tonight, as the community mourns.

A 22-year-old Scotsburn man was charged with the murder of Ms. Murphy yesterday, after being interviewed by police.

He faced the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court yesterday afternoon.

Police are yet to recover Samantha’s body and the investigation remains ongoing.

The disappearance of Ms. Murphy has rocked Ballarat, with Mayor Des Hudson saying it’s been an extremely tough time for the community at a media conference yesterday.

“But we will rally, we will [our] have arms wrapped around and support each other,” he said.

Volunteers involved in the search for Samantha Murphy are holding a public vigil at the Eureka Stockade Memorial Garden tonight at 7pm, to show respect and condolences to both her and her family.
