Central Victorian nurses and midwives are ready to strike for better pay and conditions after the latest enterprise agreement from the state government was rejected.

Around 100 nurses and midwives from central Victoria joined their counterparts in voting to apply for a protected industrial action ballot at the Fair Work Commission.

The state government offered an annual three percent wage increase over four years and a cash payment of about $1500 per full-time staff and pro-rata for part-time, which was rejected. Their current enterprise agreement expires at the end of April.
