Ballarat police have unveiled a new approach to deal with anti-social behaviour in the Little Bridge Street / Bridge Mall precinct.
Called Operation Praesidium, which is Latin for ‘safeguard’ or ‘protection’, the plan will be a Victorian first trial based on overseas success.
Ballarat’s most senior police officer Superintendent Frank Sells says he’s confident it will work.
“If you look at the strategy Victoria Police released only recently on how to keep the community safe, there were three pillars to that.”
“That is having the right police people available in the right place at the right time, working with partners.”
“That’s the really key piece to actually deliver effective policing, and that is exactly what Operation Praesidium is about,” Superintendent Sells said.
The operation will be led by Inspector Jason Templar who explained the approach to key stakeholders at Dana Street police headquarters on Tuesday night.
