New data released exclusively to this newsroom by the St Vincent de Paul Society shows unprecedented demand for its services in Ballarat.
The groups new CEO Dr Jennifer Fitzgerald, who is Ballarat based, says they’ve had to find about 60% more money just to help people through the cost-of-living crisis.
“For the 22/23 year we’ve spent over $560,000 in assistance for food and utility costs in Ballarat.”
“Thats compared to just over $347,000 last financial year, so you can see the increase.” Dr Fitzgerald said.
The Ballarat Winter Appeal, which supports the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society, is on now with donations gratefully accepted through the Ballarat Foundation’s website.
