The ‘Out of the Shadows’ walk for suicide awareness returns to the shores of Lake Wendouree early tomorrow morning.

Its aim is to bring families together who have lost loved ones, to honour and reflect ahead of sunrise.

Des Hudson, the Chair of the Ballarat & District Suicide Awareness Network, says the national suicide rate is dropping, but slowly.

“In recent times the national average has been at 13.1 completed suicides per 100,000 head of population, that’s now gone down a little bit to I think 12.4 or 12.5.”

“So, we are seeing a decrease, I think the fact that we are getting more confident to talk about mental health and knowing there are support services out there,” Mr. Hudson said.

The walk begins at 5.30am Saturday morning from Pipers Rotunda.

If you feel the need to talk call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
