Ballarat’s mayor says whilst he’s disappointed the cycling Road Nationals will only be in the municipality for one more year, it does present an opportunity.
AusCycling yesterday informed council that they’d like to move the event to a range of different courses around the country after the 18th event in Ballarat in January 2024.
Cr. Des Hudson says they’ll be actively looking for a replacement.
“I think we’ve had a great relationship and our team has worked really hard and worked really well with AusCycling.”
“We were also really respectful when they came to council and said this is what we want to do.”
“You have to also say, the $660,000 that we are putting in, are there other events that we can bid for?” Mayor Hudson said.
The Championships were first held in Ballarat from 2002 to 2004, then every year since 2007.
