A walk to tackle PTSD head-on returns to Ballarat on Saturday for the first time in 4 years.

Walking Off The War Within is held in memory of Nathan Shanahan, a returned veteran and firefighter who sadly took his own life in 2016.

Nathan’s dad John says the walk is aimed at emergency service and defence personnel but he’d like to see all of the community embrace it.

“We want to make it as inclusive as possible; we want families there; we want everyone from within the community to be there to actually talk if they’ve got problems.”

“The last walk I went on, there was a fella that came up to me and said – can I walk with you John?”

“I said most definitely, and he told me it was the first time he’d been out of the house in 4 years.” Mr. Shanahan said.

The walk will move to Windmill Drive at Lake Wendouree this year and starts at 8.30am.
