There’ll be a concerted local push to find cats and dogs a new home this weekend as National Pet Adoption Month passes the halfway mark.
An initiative of the Ballarat headquartered Petspiration Foundation, volunteers and animals will be at the PetStock central Ballarat store tomorrow and Sunday.
Speaking to Radio Ballarat this week animal behaviour specialist Lara Shannon urged us to adopt different.
“The ones that we don’t look at often are those bonded pairs, a lot of animals that end up in shelters actually come as a pair and it’s really important that they go into a new home as a pair.”
“Many people think two dogs is all too much but generally they’ve got each other to keep each other company and they’re great mates, so there’s a lot of benefits,” Ms. Shannon said.
There will also be a focus on re-homing larger and older dogs as well as cats.
