The Chief Executive Officer of Commerce Ballarat says the use of drugs in some of the city’s pubs is rampant and appears to be on the rise.
Jodie Gillett says some of her members have even seen drugs brazenly consumed in open areas of their businesses when toilet cubicles have been full.
Ms. Gillett says more police foot patrols in venues are needed.

“There doesn’t appear to be a whole lot of fear about consuming drugs at hospitality venues.”
“It’s putting enormous stress onto our venue owners and their staff.”
“It’s not fair, we need to see a higher level of police presence in the venues,” Ms. Gillett said.
The matter is expected to be addressed at the next meeting of the Ballarat Liquor Accord.
