The CEO of the City of Ballarat has defended hiring a Melbourne-based firm to clean local council facilities.
Out of four recently awarded cleaning tenders, three have gone to local firms.
Council have stressed that even though the fourth went to an out-of-town business, its workers are local.
CEO Evan King says they’re guided by a policy that does favour Ballarat businesses; however, it may need improvement.
“I want as much spend to be made locally,” Mr. King said.
“When I see tender results like that, we continue to look at why did that occur and what changes can we make to our procurement policy to ensure we get as much local spend as possible,”
