Just a dream back in 2020, today Sovereign Hill opened the Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections in part of the old Gold Museum.
It’s home to more than 150,000 items many previously not available to the public.
Sovereign Hill CEO Sara Quon says it’s a special day for Ballarat.

“In the Gold Museum itself we’ve got the Rare Trades Centre which we opened in November last year which offers hands on workshops with artisans.”
“What we are opening today is the other half of the building which celebrates and helps the public engage with our collection,” Ms Quon said.
The project has been made possible with the support of the Ballarat Historical Society and Chinese Australian Cultural Association of Ballarat.
