Ballarat urged to get donating as blood stores plummet

The call’s been made again for blood donors in the lead up to Easter.

Emily Granland from LifeBlood says they have bookings for fourteen people in Ballarat this week, with one-hundred and twenty-four extra appointments in the lead up to the holidays.

“There are a lot of people that are regular donors that take a well-deserved break, so we’re always looking for people to roll up their sleeve and donate blood.”

The organisation says that blood storage levels nationwide have dropped to their lowest in nearly a decade as surgery begins to pick up again from the COVID-19 backlog.

Lifeblood says A, B, O Positive and O Negative are in demand, with a particular focus on the universal O Negative due to its use in emergency situations.
