Ballarat’s potato harvesting season remains about a month behind schedule, now set for mid April.
The delay follows last years devastating storms and floods which heavily impacted local growers leading to supermarket supply issues, especially for frozen potato products.
President of the Ballarat Potato Growers Association Chris Stevens says our dry summer has helped local farmers start to get back on track.
Meanwhile, one local fish and chip shop has managed to get spuds back in – for now at least.
The Brown Hill Fish and Chip Shop says a local farmer has managed to deliver in large potatoes, putting their handmade potato cakes back on the menu.
Going forward, the popular take-away spot is looking at ways to continue their spud supply when the season ends again in December.
