Ballarat landowners urged to get rid of ‘weed of national significance’

The fight against Serrated Tussock in the Ballarat region is ramping up.

The grass, originally from South America, is listed as a ‘weed of national significance’ for its negative economic and environmental impacts.

Ivan Carter from the Serrated Tussock Working Party says it can spread quickly.

“So, between Ballan and Ballarat, around Warrenheip, Buninyong to Lal Lal, it’s starting to creep in from the east and the south towards Ballarat.”

“We’ve obviously got some prime farming land around the Ballarat region, its known for its good soil and plenty of rainfall as we saw on the weekend,” Mr. Carter said.
