The weather bureau has issued a severe weather warning for much of the state, with damaging winds expected to develop later today into early Saturday.
Winds averaging 55 to 65 km/h from the west to north-west, with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h are likely to develop over the Central Ranges and Grampians areas this evening.
Locations which may be affected include Melbourne, Ballarat, Bacchus Marsh and Maryborough.

Conditions are expected to ease from the west late on Saturday, though eastern parts of the state including the Alpine areas may continue to experience hazardous conditions into Sunday morning.
