Despite looking a little unwell with some dead and dying fronds, Ballarat’s newest palm trees are said to be doing okay.
Four, five metre tall Mexican Fan Palms were planted in the CBD by council late last year as a throwback to Sturt Street of a hundred years ago.
Cr Tracey Hargreaves says the palms are going through ‘plant shock’ which is normal.

“They are being watched really closely and the City of Ballarat arborists and design team are monitoring it and are satisfied with the way it’s going.”
“It’s a normal reaction when you move the location of a plant, and they’re pretty substantial plants at that,” Cr Hargreaves said.
