Only one day to go until the 10th Ballarat International Foto Biennale gets underway.
Headlined by the world premiere of Platon’s ‘People Power’ exhibition the festival has also seen a 9 metre high inflatable golden monkey installed in Lydiard Street South today.
Lisa Roet’s sculpture takes the form of a Myanmar snub-nosed monkey gripping the corner of the old Union Bank building and aims to draw attention to the reality of species extinction.
Foto CEO Vanessa Gerrans says the event is more than just art, it’s a real shot in the arm for Ballarat’s economy to.
“The last three festivals have brought upwards of $17 million to the local economy.”
“The hotels are booked up with lots of visitors, over 30,000 visitors we’re expecting,” Ms. Gerrans said.
