A man has been arrested following a crash which closed the intersection of Howitt Street and Creswick Road yesterday morning.

Police say patrolling members attempted a routine intercept on Dowling Street just before 6, after a Holden Commodore was observed travelling with no tail lights.

It's then alleged the suspect increased their speed and fled down the road and a short time later, collided with a Mazda at the intersection.

A 20 year-old Redan man allegedly fled the scene but was arrested a short time later.

Police say NO pursuit was initiated at any point.
